The character creator (or character customization screen) allows players to define the look of their character in Ashes of Creation.[3]

The goal is to have a character creator that is on par with if not much better than what BDO provided.[5]

If I had to give a comparison, I would use BDO as an example of what our Character Creation is going for.[6]Steven Sharif

A character's voice may be able to be selected from preset options.[7]

Character appearance

Des curseurs permettront une certaine flexibilité dans la customisation.[19]

  • Des variantes pour les coupes de cheveux.[11]
    • Ajouter de la pilosité sur certaines parties du corps.
  • De la peinture corporelle.[11]
  • Modifier les traits du visage.[11]
  • Modifier la structure osseuse.[11]
  • Modifier la taille.[11]
    • Soyons sérieux, vous ne pourrez pas faire un personnage faisant 3cm de haut.[20]
  • Modifier la morphologie.[11]
  • Ajuster le pourcentage de graisse.[11]

Ces ajustements permettront de faire transparaître un personnage plus féminin ou masculin.[21]

  • La hauteur des sourcils.[21]
  • Ajuster le menton.[21]
  • Modifier les cheveux.[21]
  • Modifier la pilosité faciale.[22]
    • Les barbes des Naines ne seront pas aussi développées que celles des Nains. Cela prendra la forme d'un tressage peu volumineux.[11]
    • La pilosité faciale est une caractéristique des Dünir, pas des Niküa.[11]
  • La morphologie.[21]
  • Il y aura des curseurs pour les seins.[20]
    • Ils dépendront de la race du personnage.
    • L'échelle sera réaliste.

Cosmetic items

Cosmetic items allow players to customize their character in-game.[4]

  • Eye color.
  • Skin color.
  • Hair color.
  • Hairstyles.
  • Tattoos.
  • Scars.

Cosmetic items that produce in-game cosmetic effects will also be available.[24]

Dyeable items

Dyes only affect tagged portions of dyeable armor or cosmetic items.[25]

  • The dyeability of costumes depends on the specific costume.[25]

Outside of wanting to keep maybe some identity from a lore perspective; for example if you have like a white lion's suit of armor, you may not want that white lion suit of armor to be black or blue. So, it's possible. It depends on the costume itself.[25]Steven Sharif

Emoji

Emoji adds additional flare either for chat or character representation.[4] Emoji packs were available in the Kickstarter and Summer crowdfunding campaigns at the Explorer level and above.[4]

There will be role-playing emoji such as dice rolling.[26]

Early access

Ashes of Creation Apocalypse may include an early access character creator.[8][27][28]

As we develop our character creation screen we'll implement that into arena mode. So can create characters there, save those characters. When you make a character in Ashes you can port over that save.[28]Steven Sharif

I would like to have the option for players to go in spend time, create characters save that character and then have it available in their suite their character creation suite as an option to preload at launch that they can take that's those settings and launch the character. I would love for there to be community rewards and competitions for the best made characters that we could do like a monthly kind of thing around and/or additionally I'd like for there to be implementation of housing and a housing suite that you can save your furniture load out as well for building out the interior of housing. I don't know if we'll be able to get to that. It is a cherry on top of the icing. And we'll see how the schedule looks with that regard.[30]Steven Sharif

Character page

A character web page (character sheet) will be available closer to live launch that shows the following:[31]

  • What a character looks like.[31]
  • Réalisations and server firsts.[31]
  • Info on a player's class.[31]
  • Character's back story via journal entries (that are shared publicly by the player).[32][33]
  • Traits can be applied that describe a character's history.[33]

You will have a unique homepage for each character and that homepage will be able to be customized by the user to display unique information. It will have a small out-of-game RPG component where you can construct background and traits and stuff like that.[33]Steven Sharif

The character page will be accessible in game by opening a browser through the UI.[32]

That's part of the character sheet desire for us which hopefully will be accessible in game as well by opening a browser through our UI where you can get back history of a character that that character has input themselves into journal entries that they may choose to share with others... For role play perspective we want people to be in depth with their characters.[32]Steven Sharif

The player can manage what info is shown on the character page.[31]

Nom de personnage

Tulnar

Les Tulnar sont la seule race avec la capacité d'ajuster l'apparence raciale de manière significative.[38]

  • La race Tulnar ne possède pas de sous-types, par contre, les joueurs pourront personnaliser l'apparence de leurs personnages Tulnar.[39]
  • Les joueurs auront des cadrans pour ajuster les attributs reptiliens, mammifères, humanoïdes et autres, de leur personnage Tulnar dans le créateur de personnages.[40]
    • Un Tulnar mammifère pourra avoir un museau, de la fourrure et des genoux inversés.[41]
    • Un Tulnar reptilien pourra avoir des yeux et une forme de tête plus circulaires, ainsi qu'une peau à écailles.[41]
  • Les Tulnar ne sont pas l'équivalent de furries.[42]
    • Il y a des composantes bestiales qui pourront être amplifiées lors de la création d'un personnage Tulnar.[42]

Racial skins

Racial skins enable a player to change their character's racial appearance.[43][44]

  • Racial skins transform the race of the character to that skin. The original racial appearance of the character is entirely replaced.[45]
  • Racial skins can be toggled on and off.[44]

You're changing your race over to that, which means that you won't look uniquely different if you were a Vek angel or a Human angel.[45]Steven Sharif

Racial skins are not costumes. This means that armor and character customization is possible on these.[46]

  • Skin color customization.[47]
  • Racial skins appear along with any costume appearances.[48]

There are plans to create other racial skins.[49]

  • Some potential future ideas include undead and werewolf (lycan) skins.[50]

Costumes

Armor appearance

We want to be realistic with the application of particular types of armor, such as plate armor. In this regard for the different sexes there's a fine line that has to be drawn between accentuating the form of the sex as well as making it somewhat realistic and actually applicable to the environment.[55]Steven Sharif

Gear is intended to be realistic in appearance.[56][57]

  • There will not be "oversized" weapons.[58]
  • Armor will not be overly sexual in appearance.[57]

We're going for kind of a more realistic look; not necessarily realistic setting, but we want our characters to have weight and kind of feel like they're there.[56]Jeffrey Bard

I'm more of the mind that it wouldn't really serve a purpose to have bikini plate armor, just in like reality, if you're going to have armor, it should be protective. I think from a fashion statement is enjoyable for some people, but it's a kind of an immersive issue.[56]Steven Sharif

Armure will take on a racial appearance.[59]

  • Cosmétiques can be used by all races but there may be slight variations to make them work with the body builds of each race.[60]

Players can change gear colors using dyes.[61][62]

Helmet display can be toggled on and off.[63]

  • Hair will likely be masked if helmet display is toggled on.[64]

Particle effects are used to denote the importance and rarity of some weapons.[65]

Armes are able to be sheathed.[66]

Crafters are able to influence what their crafted items will look like.[67][68]

Appearance slots/Transmogs

Equipement will have appearance slots (Transmutation/Transmog/cosmetic slots) that are used to copy the appearance of an item (in some cases).[69][70]

  • There are rules when applying cosmetics to specific items, unlike costumes, which don't have level restrictions.[71]
  • Cosmetic slots can be toggled on or off by the player.[72]
  • A "default player appearance" may be automatically applied during sieges or other large scale battles to improve client-side performance.[73][74]

Attachments

Attachments are able to be unlocked as flair pieces to armor to create a customizable look.[75]

  • There will be hundreds of attachments available ranging from a small clasp to the front plate of a breast plate.[75]

Modular armor

You can kind of start to see like some of the components that we put together that we can mix and match and kind of make new armors from. This is kind of like the base chassis for all of that.[76]Jeffrey Bard

This is what we call our t-shirt and pants. So this gives you a perfect example of just how the most basic you'll ever look in alpha. So even our most basic look, we're really trying to bring it and put a lot of detail in it.[77]Mat Broome

Your base look for the character can be pretty boring, but what Steven gave us a challenge with from day one was to make sure even the base look, the t-shirt and pants, looked amazing... This is your zero character, if you will... Then you can go in and customize everything from the shoulder pads to the elbow pads, the belt that goes around them; do you want duel belts, you want to harness the clothes in the front. So every piece you see on here you can actually customize that at the front end. So what we do is we scale that up from zero, ten and twenty... We scale it up and we customize it; and then I want to really stress that each one of those looks as you progress is different. We're not just repurposing the same armor pieces. We're making unique sets that complement each other as you progress.[76]Mat Broome

Ashes of Creation Apocalypse will have three different armor themes: Plate, leather and robe.[77]

You can actually have three different types of themes: You have plate, you'll have leather and you'll have robe. So for every armor set that we're showing at each one of those tiers, you're actually gonna have nine unique looks to pick from.[77]Mat Broome
