Cosmetic armor
Cosmétiques
Cosmétiques provide a wide array of customization in Ashes of Creation.[3]
- There are no pay-to-win gameplay benefits from any purchasable items.[2][4]
- All skin cosmetic items are cosmetic items only and do not grant the user any other benefit. The lore text is flavor text, and background of the creatures and items in the world of Verra.[1]
- Types of cosmetics:
- Equitable cosmetics, both from a quantity and quality standpoint, are achievable through in-game means.[5][6] Cosmetics achievable in-game will be on-par, and in the case of legendary skins, even more elaborate than shop items.[7][8][2]
- I want to make sure that equitable cosmetics both from a quantity and quality standpoint are achievable through in-game achievements. Time, effort should let you be happy with what you can accomplish.[6] – Steven Sharif
- In my opinion quality of cash shop cosmetics should be equal to in game achievable cosmetics, but offer a diverse selection of unique looks.[9] – Steven Sharif
- There will be legendary cosmetics that are only achievable in-game that will never be offered in the cosmetic shop.[7][8][2]
- The most grand looking cosmetics will be from in-game achievment only.[10] – Steven Sharif
- There will not be recolors or material swaps on the monthly cosmetics as a means to populate in-game achievements.[7]
- There will be variants of the monthly cosmetics for PNJs and Monstres.[7][11]
- Component pieces of cosmetic armor may be reused in other in-game achievable gear sets.[7]
- From an armor standpoint, we cut armor sets up into many different pieces. These pieces can sometimes be used as part of other sets, that may include helmets, wrists, gloves etc. So while you will not see an achievable white version of the corvid castigator set in the game for example, you may see its shoulder piece used in another set, or its leggings, or wrist piece used in another set (not every piece as to form the whole set, but perhaps a couple pieces). This would be difficult to notice at first glance, due to the material, texture and color variation used, but this modular approach to content creation makes achieving a wide variety of looks achievable for an MMORPG of our size.[7] – Steven Sharif
- Different variants of store purchased cosmetic creatures (Pets and Montures) may exist in the wild.[12][13]
- While the exact same skin will not be available again in the future once it's gone from the Shop, these skins are all variants of creatures that you can expect to see across Verra - so perhaps you will find one with a similar style in-game![12] – Sarah Flanagan
- Cosmétiques can be used by all races but there may be slight variations to make them work with the body builds of each race.[14][15]
- There will not be mascot looking/furry cosmetics.[16]
- It's important to remember, Ashes is a NO-BOX COST subscription only game, with an optional cosmetic marketplace. This achieves a few things from a monetization model. Having a lower barrier to entry for players to try the game when they don't have to fork out $60 for the box price is good, our box price is 0$. This also places an emphasis on the game's retention and our continual updates and content creation to keep players playing and staying subscribed (a put your money where your mouth is sort of philosophy for us as a company). It also means players don't have to spend $60 every time there is an expansion.[7] – Steven Sharif
- Is there an answer that satisfies everyone? Nope. And that's ok. We are open and transparent with our philosophies and business model. You know what you are getting with Ashes and to me, given my experiences in other games, it is a nice breath of fresh air.[7] – Steven Sharif
- Costume and pet cosmetics don't have a level restriction. Building, ship, caravan and mount cosmetics require an in-game item to be obtained first to apply the cosmetic.[17][18]
- I know there have been quite a few questions regarding cosmetics over the years. As we get further along in development, we'll be providing more specific information regarding what specific buildings, items, etc., you can place each cosmetic on. We'll update this for all past items.[19] – Margaret Krohn
- Cosmétiques are not tradeable with other players but can be reassigned to other characters (alts) within the same account.[20][21]
Magasin cosmétique
The Magasin cosmétique enables players to purchase Cosmétiques for use in Ashes of Creation.[23] The cosmetic store offers limited time, limited quantity items to help sustain game development.[6]
- Equitable cosmetics, both from a quantity and quality standpoint, are achievable through in-game means.[6]
- Nothing in the cosmetic store will be pay to win.[4]
Nothing in our shop will ever be pay to win as we believe this practice greatly hurts the MMORPG genre.[4]
- Cash shop cosmetics will offer a diverse selection of unique looks.[9]
I want to incentivize purchase in the cosmetic shop for sustainability of what expansions we have intended, since we are not a box cost. I want to incentivize purchase by offering limited items: limited time, limited quantity, so you have confidence that when you purchase them, they won't be offered later on in some other way.[6] – Steven Sharif
- All cosmetic store items will be non-tradeable.[21] There will be no gifting mechanism for cosmetic items.[24]
I don't want cosmetic items that can be purchased from the market to be transferable... because it is in a way a transfer of money for potentially something in-game.[24] – Steven Sharif
Apparences
Accessories/armor, Bâtiments, Caravanes, Montures, Pets, and Navires sold in the cosmetic store are skins.[27][28][29]
- Skins are cosmetic items that do not grant the user any benefit.[1]
- Skins are only be able to be applied to things that have already been earned, crafted or found within Ashes of Creation.[30][31]
- Owning cosmetics does not guarantee the acquisition of the item the cosmetic can be used on. Players must still achieve the corresponding item/building.[30] – Steven Sharif
- Caravan skins change the appearance of an in-game mount and in-game caravan that are hooked up to each other.[34][35]
- The best skins will be in-game achievable.[36]
- The best skins will be in-game achievable (obviously “best” is subjective, so I’d say the most ornate and detailed/unique).[36] – Steven Sharif
Crafted items
Crafted items (also referred to as Completed items, Finished goods, or Final products) are items produced by crafter artisans using crafting stations.[55][56][57][58][59][60]
- Completed items can be accessed by players in warehouses at any node regardless of citizenship or housing ownership.[61][55][62]
- Crafted gear is considered best-in-slot in Ashes of Creation.[58]
- Previously it was stated that crafted items will be on-par with boss dropped items.[63][64][65]
- Crafters will be able to assign different skills/abilities and stats on gear.[48][66]
- Master crafters will be able to influence several (but not all) stats on their crafted items.[48][67]
- Crafted gear in the game is the best gear... One thing that I'm not a fan of is that you develop a crafting system in a game and you've spent a lot of time making this from a material and resource perspective. All the tables that you can receive, all the connectivity in the economy and how crafting is associated with the game; and then you undermine the crafting entirely by presenting a separate route of gear acquisition that is on-par with the crafting efforts. So here you have these people who are acquiring all of the resources getting, all the recipes, leveling up their professions and then everything they make is less or equal to anything you could just have chosen the easier path of and gone down the questing and received the best gear. So what we do focus on is that crafters make the best shit. Excuse me, the best things.[58] – Steven Sharif
- The rarity of crafted items will be commensurate with the effort required to gather, process and craft the items.[65]
- Statistiques on crafted items will vary based on the item's rarity.[68]
- Apparences d'équipements is influenced by the rarity of the crafted item.[69]
- That plays into our crafting system in and of itself. The idea is for those stats to be variables that can be dictated based on the mastery level of the particular crafter; and the higher they become a master of those professions, whether it be for armor or for weapons or for accessories, they're going to have some agency and put their mark on essentially what items they're introducing into the economy.[68] – Steven Sharif
- Crafters are able to influence what their crafted items will look like.[48][49]
- At the moment, harnessing corruption to warp items into demonic or decayed things is not on the cards.[70]
- A crafter's name is embedded in the items they craft.[71]
- We believe that every item that exists in the world should in some way reflect its creator. As such, there will be extreme versatility in our crafting system – giving crafters the ability to create unique items that represent their strengths and weaknesses.[72]
Racial weapons and armor
