  • 0:21

salutations and Welcome to our glorious Ashes of Creation Community Welcome to

  • 0:28

our August development update hopefully everyone has had a very you

  • 0:34

know chill month no one's overheating or anything I think a few people might be

  • 0:40

overheating are you okay I I'm fine although I am

  • 0:45

definitely a colder creature I have this philosophy that it's very easy to make yourself warmer with just additional

  • 0:51

layers of clothing you can't take stuff off really well you can you might be to

  • 0:56

the dismay of others around you but um there's really nothing you can do without technology if you're really hot

  • 1:04

like you know and then you need like a self fan we need a Little Ashes of creation fan yeah oh I have fans

  • 1:11

sometimes I'll just point that fan on me and let it rip all right well we hope you all have been

  • 1:18

having an exciting month and of course we are always excited to share all the cool stuff that we have for you and um

  • 1:24

today we'll be we're kind of taking a little throwback to our old ways um

  • 1:29

we're gonna be doing a studio update environment update character art update design update we're gonna do all the

  • 1:35

updates it has we've been showing off a lot of really cool stuff along the way this or these last few months but we

  • 1:42

really wanna share some things that we haven't gotten to share with you

  • 1:47

yeah not only the changes but you know every now and then and then you guys don't always see this because we grab

  • 1:54

pieces of what we are developing of course sometimes months back or

  • 2:01

sometimes hot off the press but along this past now it's been a year since

  • 2:06

alpha one we've made a lot of revisions across a lot of the design space and we

  • 2:12

have changed some of the intended functionality for some of our systems so today's stream is really going to be

  • 2:19

about catching up on some of those things I know for those of you who are hardcore die hard you know following the

  • 2:26

development um oftentimes you see information that you already knew about or you can find

  • 2:33

readily on the wiki um today we're going to be updating some of that stuff so it's going to be a little easier yeah get your little Wiki

  • 2:40

typing hands ready because uh you're gonna be needing into make some updates

  • 2:45

because there's things they be a change in um so before we get into that we'll do

Reminders

  • 2:52

our quick reminders I'll try to be pretty Snappy with them we don't have too many this time around but of course

  • 2:58

we have our Spotlight for our Quest or our YouTube comment this month

  • 3:03

which you know if you subscribe to us over on our YouTube and leave a comment when we upload this video you too could

  • 3:09

also be Spotlight spotlighted but last month we had tree folk Druid who said I

  • 3:16

don't know if it's gonna be a thing but I think the Palms should Sway in the Desert Wind the same with the dunes and

  • 3:23

the sand blowing maybe that would be too intensive but it would be it would look

  • 3:28

cool so what do you think about that I think first of all that absolutely I

  • 3:34

agree Palms should sway we have a really actually uh Dynamic approach that our

  • 3:40

Tech art team has an environment team has helped to kind of um to curate here on our end from a

  • 3:47

development perspective is how tree blood or how Wind Blows through the trees right oftentimes you'll be able to

  • 3:54

like set a wind speed and that will be a constant thing and you'll you know see the leaves of the tree moving you know

  • 3:59

all the time but we actually have a variant that that just kind of in emulates those those stronger gusts and

  • 4:07

those lighter gusts right and that's something that you will see in the game one thing that is always at the

  • 4:14

Forefront of our minds whenever we are creating um visual Tech art for things like wind

  • 4:21

and and the trees is performance uh it is an incredibly important aspect I mean

  • 4:27

we are using Unreal Engine 5 there's some great things out of the box that help with that performance but from our

  • 4:32

end as an MMO development Studio you know everything is going to be about performance and we're making sure that

  • 4:37

we're conscientious of that when we're including things like these wind effects on on trees and and foliage in general

  • 4:44

um so yes you will see that the Palms will be blowing at different times at different rates and if you didn't see

  • 4:50

our desert biome update or our seasonal update um I would implore you to go check it

  • 4:56

out some amazing art and it's really going to give just the atmospheric

  • 5:03

element momentum yeah all the seasons the desert biome is just wonderful how

  • 5:08

the Sand's moving and it looks like it's safe and I think even some of the um a

  • 5:14

little bit of the video showcase on some of that foliage in the desert realm I think you see some of the wind blowing actually in those trees yeah yeah I

  • 5:21

think yeah and of course we have our cosmetic swap over that will be

  • 5:26

happening for the tip of the spear which will be September 7th so if you want to get those snag those quick of course

  • 5:33

these are going to be variants in the world this helps us build the NPCs

  • 5:38

creatures buildings Etc design is going to be utilizing these to make variants of really cool stuff that you're going

  • 5:44

to battle in game which is exciting and of course we have our Dev discussion we

  • 5:51

want you to head over to our forums and answer this for us would you prefer more traditional MMORPG Main and off tank

  • 5:58

rolls or would you prefer to see combat experiences with several tanks fighting

  • 6:04

and of course stay tuned next month for our next topic which will be regarding

  • 6:09

Gathering and PVP and with that that's exciting and real quick I just want to actually point out that

  • 6:16

um I know we say this often uh but those Dev discussions are super super helpful

  • 6:23

um and those of you who are going on the forums and participating and giving your thoughts and experience and

  • 6:30

um you know everything that you guys contribute to the conversation I can't say this enough we can't say this enough

  • 6:36

but when we have our community team uh take those responses and create these

  • 6:42

reports they're they are shared through a meeting with the appropriate Dev stakeholders and we talk about oh you

  • 6:50

know that idea yeah we already have plans for that right or that's an interesting thought or you know maybe

  • 6:55

this isn't the type of idea um that we should uh pursue or we're

  • 7:00

gonna see how their thoughts might change on something during testing right that's kind of like generally our approach

  • 7:06

um if those of you want you know the purpose of this whole transparent process is for you guys to have a voice

  • 7:13

in expressing your experiences and your thoughts on what we're are what we're developing so if you haven't had an

  • 7:19

opportunity to go participate in those I really want to strongly recommend that you take a look at these Dev discussions

  • 7:25

and you consider opining because it is an important part of the process and our

  • 7:31

community team is very interactive so if you you know talk to us over on the

  • 7:37

forums or Discord or on our social our social media manager also everyone's kicking butt so you will get a response

  • 7:44

from us often so yes thank you all so much we appreciate it and they work

  • 7:50

really hard on those reports so it's very absolutely I know for their from their perspective when the designers or

  • 7:57

artists or Engineers are excited to you know go through those feedback pieces it

  • 8:03

means a lot um yeah it does and the community team does such a great job putting all that stuff together

  • 8:09

um Peter you know they all put that stuff together very well off of our socials

  • 8:14

and forums and it's in a nice cohesive spot ready for review and when Margaret

  • 8:20

sets that meeting up with the devs so it's it's very helpful of course and of course we have some

Studio Update

  • 8:26

studio updates so we'll go through those and then we'll get into the fun stuff

  • 8:32

if you want to take that way take that away so sorry I was reading I was reading the comments I need to not do

  • 8:38

that um yeah Studio update we had a great week this week a really strong

  • 8:46

week um I can't talk too much about you know what was uh so pivotal but we ended our

  • 8:54

Milestone too um and you know for those of you who are unfamiliar kind of with production of of

  • 9:00

you know game developments and stuff um we we run a pretty agile uh uh

  • 9:06

project management structure and um the end of you know every few Sprints or so is our milestones and um we like

  • 9:14

to celebrate those Milestones here at the studio we had a great time um was it Wednesday night I think it was

  • 9:20

Wednesday night um Wednesday night at a at a local place here where we all got to get together

  • 9:25

with the team and just kind of celebrate we played some virtual golf and did a little arcade stuff in the evening had a

  • 9:31

few drinks had a lot of fun um with everybody kind of celebrating we had a big town hall on Wednesday where we

  • 9:36

showcased our achievements um there were some videos there were some yeah there were some definitely

  • 9:42

some tears um but you know I just want to say that uh you know this this last week kind of

  • 9:49

going over everything that we've accomplished a milestone too internally as a team it was really great to see because you

  • 9:57

know this is a lot of work it's a lot it's a lot of work building a MMO

  • 10:02

especially one of our particular ambition um and you know the studio has grown now

  • 10:09

we've hired over 40 people this year which is a big number and that in any

  • 10:15

company's lifespan can be a difficult thing the growth phase of a company there's a lot of stuff that can fall

  • 10:22

through the cracks there's culture that you got to be super cognizant of and protect there's

  • 10:27

um you know there's workflows and processes and pipelines that you need to induct people into right and um I want

  • 10:34

to say that that our team has managed that very well and and I have been a

  • 10:40

part of growing companies in the past and sometimes it is not done well and when it's not done well you can tell

  • 10:47

very very quickly when processes start to break down or communication exactly

  • 10:53

correct yeah one of those yeah absolutely one of those components of good processes is effective communication and those are facilitated

  • 11:00

by the team members uh particularly production helps in that regard but also the leads and the new members of the

  • 11:06

teams like the you know it's all their sensibility so what I just want to say is that this last week has been a a great Illuminator of just how far we've

  • 11:14

come this year um uh internally and I know you guys don't have 100 insight there but I I

  • 11:20

gotta tell you from from my perspective it has been a a truly phenomenal experience over this last six seven

  • 11:27

months of the year um other Studio update we are still continuing to hire we're having a a

  • 11:32

great success attracting a lot of talent um we have a a pretty small window of

  • 11:39

acceptance rate from our applicants about 1.4 percent on average a month which you know it's nice to have that

  • 11:45

pick of the litter so to speak right there's a lot of talented devs out there if you guys don't make it you know through the process here at Intrepid

  • 11:51

that doesn't mean you can't make it in the future so don't don't let that be a discouragement um go back refine your skills build your

  • 11:58

personal portfolio that's the best advice I can give to those of you out there that are looking for a job in this

  • 12:03

industry and at Intrepid studios in particular um we've had a lot of success uh

  • 12:08

internally with regards to um the work towards Alpha 2. um it's been very exciting to see you

  • 12:16

guys are seeing little pieces of that each month but otherwise the studio updates been pretty pretty great for

  • 12:22

those of you who are saying Stephen needs an assistant there's a position up there is there oh my God

  • 12:29

there is absolutely please let me can I connect um yeah go for it can I just say this okay

  • 12:35

for those of you out there who uh fancy yourselves an executive assistant that

  • 12:41

has intimate knowledge of game design of MMORPG references

  • 12:48

um understanding pipelines and processes in this industry are phenomenal at note

  • 12:54

taking and communication or shorthand can sit through really long Laura

  • 12:59

narrative meetings and design meetings with me and take action items and follow up on those action I was like

  • 13:06

if in a you know incredible I'm sure Stephen shows up to his meeting sometimes make sure I don't get Triple

  • 13:13

booked for my meetings that I'm constantly having to having to juggle

  • 13:18

um that would be helpful uh but if you know anybody who's like that also send them our way just to to apply people

  • 13:26

were like why can't you have Margaret do it homies I already have enough departments to cover yeah

  • 13:34

gold [Laughter]

  • 13:43

I guess he could just do the streams from the office I'm just kidding I'm just kidding

  • 13:49

all right anything else you want to mention on the studio side no that was interesting plugging the executive

  • 13:55

assistant position on this on the live stream we'll see how that works you're gonna get like a bunch of

  • 14:01

applications do me a favor just clip that segment where I describe the position a bit and

  • 14:08

uh and feel free to share it perfect um but you know of course everyone's

  • 14:15

very excited we you know this big morale boost to see everybody in the office and to

  • 14:21

um kind of celebrate together because we work really hard and sometimes it's nice to look back and be like wow we

  • 14:28

accomplished a lot um yes in just a few months so yeah amazing and also um Mike on our team on

  • 14:36

on Margaret's team actually did an awesome job making a uh internal uh cut

  • 14:42

of some footage that we have of the studio from like back in 2017 to today

  • 14:47

it's it was uh it was definitely a tear jerker he splicing content creators too

  • 14:53

okay I told I told him after I saw that because they kind of did it as a little bit of surprise I had no insight to it

  • 14:59

until like literally yesterday the day before and um I told him I am often impressed but

  • 15:07

rarely surprised and I was I was definitely so I'm sure he was so happy

  • 15:13

he was so proud of that he did he's been working really hard honestly everybody has but um he definitely filled up many

  • 15:20

cups of tears from people especially those of us who've been here for so long too I think

  • 15:28

it's crazy seeing our journey and it's not even over yet so let's move on to

Environment Update

  • 15:35

environment and talk about all the amazing things they've been up to do you kind of want to do a gist first and then

  • 15:41

we'll show footage or just show the footage while you talk about what they've been doing yeah yeah that's a

  • 15:46

great idea let's do that all right so this first video here that we're going to show is

  • 15:51

um of the Riverland flora and desert rocks and yes then we'll be showing the

  • 15:57

Joshua tree and fantasy ball bearings so basically what you're seeing here is

  • 16:02

you know Alpha 2 is going to have a pretty significant cross-section of

  • 16:08

different biomes the two primary ones that Alpha 2 is going to contain are going to be forests River lands and

  • 16:16

desert right it's going to be some Badlands mixed in there's going to be some some other areas but

  • 16:22

that's going to be the predominant cross-section of the world that players are going to have access to and you're

  • 16:28

just kind of seeing what the density of that of that is

  • 16:34

going to look like especially in these Forest environments and it's important to note that like what you're seeing here does

  • 16:41

not include active resource spawners yet because resource banners and materials

  • 16:46

that you're going to go out and gather are also going to need to live alongside what the general foliage is in each of

  • 16:53

these biomes and so um what part of what Alpha 2 presents us an opportunity to do is to focus test

  • 17:00

amongst our players what is too dense what is performant off that density

  • 17:07

um and and and what is obstructing kind of the visual of the gatherables within

  • 17:13

that area you're also seeing some of the wind right now in those Palms if you look at the leaves you can see the one

  • 17:19

in the distance or the close-up you know you see that that variant wind demonstration that's in those and these

  • 17:25

you know these are some of the foliage that environment's been creating as part of what's capable of creating an

  • 17:32

interesting desert biome because many times in the games that probably we've played the least interesting biome type

  • 17:40

tends to be a desert and it's been always fun as I've experienced in the MMOs I've played is like you know what

  • 17:47

what is uh how do they spruce up a desert um and one of the interesting things you're going to see in Alpha 2 is

  • 17:54

how the desert also adheres to Seasons and has weather and has giant dust

  • 18:00

storms and clouds within which there are interesting creatures that might not

  • 18:06

normally be present unless for that particular weather that's going to be

  • 18:12

very interesting as well you saw a little bit of a you know the sand tornado capabilities with the dust devil

  • 18:18

kicking up both in the weather presentation as well as a little bit in the uh uh in the desert reveal and you

  • 18:27

also saw some ambient um uh effects that live across the top

  • 18:33

of those Dunes where you're seeing Winds of sand getting blown across in the distance and and you know here's the key

  • 18:40

Point Graphics don't make a game fun systems make games fun but Graphics make

  • 18:49

those systems far more enjoyable and and that is kind of the the perspective that

  • 18:55

we have with the the game you can have a great game that has very little

  • 19:01

compelling immersive qualities and and you know finely made art but if you have

  • 19:08

a game that has great systems and lives alongside with that this incredibly immersive atmosphere and zones from

  • 19:16

which you get to play in it is the best of both worlds and that's kind of our objective right

  • 19:22

um so that's what we want to focus on as from our perspective we've we've attracted an incredibly talented group

  • 19:28

of people um we've had you know people that have just made some Stellar things in their

  • 19:34

career and really this is this is the time to shine with ashes of Creation with what they're doing there is no no

  • 19:42

bound beyond the creative freedoms that are afforded our artists they run the

  • 19:47

show when it comes to visuals right um and and that is that is I think something that is going to be wholly

  • 19:53

unique in Ashes of Creation that you guys are going to get to experience and it's

  • 19:59

one of those things where you just kind of have to realize too that art is being made parallel to those

  • 20:07

systems so a lot of people are like why are you focusing on Art because art we can show right a lot of the systems are

  • 20:13

you got to play a little design you know like you have to experience them to

  • 20:18

really see them in action no the uh yeah I mean that's a very good point right if you think about a development process if

  • 20:25

you don't have much experience kind of understanding the the intricacies of the of the process you know art is

  • 20:32

constantly getting barraged with requests whether it be itemization requests for gear or creature requests

  • 20:39

for Content or environment requests for points of interest Dungeons and biomes like you know their Nations

  • 20:48

absolutely ability animations creature attack anim Suites um you know whatever there's a lot of

  • 20:55

requests that get serviced by our our teams which stem from designs desires

  • 21:01

about the world or designs desires about systems

  • 21:06

um you know this is that those two things live in parallel oh yeah and someone mentioned audio Yeah of course

  • 21:11

that's another thing right audios oh cat does an amazing job absolutely

  • 21:17

love all the work then she does um so we were we will move on to a

Character Art Update

  • 21:24

character art if you're ready for that yeah absolutely all right

  • 21:32

first and foremost here we have the Jade sigil oh this one's great was this Jan

  • 21:41

yeah this one oh I'm not sure which one this one this was the one I didn't have a label for I believe this was uh uh

  • 21:48

Jan's yeah looks very good I love the uh the Rope work in the back there this was one that

  • 21:54

I designed like a long while ago so it's cool to see it in a 3D model I was inspired by like WWE belts but I

  • 22:03

wanted I was like make it renkai the belt of giant string

  • 22:11

and then we have the trawlers guys which uh is by Jan as well

  • 22:20

this one was designed quite a long time ago those Fishers out there interested

  • 22:26

in some uh some fishing maybe yeah this was one of the sets that I designed for the nikuen

  • 22:33

um somebody got the Pathfinder reference Buttercup clover nice job good job there's a lot of

  • 22:41

Pathfinder oh by the way did you know uh Stephen last month they got a bingo

  • 22:48

who got a bingo they got a bingo the Chad did because you know they do like the Community Bingo sheet no no way yeah

  • 22:55

that's cool did they win a prize I don't know the prize was they got they got all

  • 23:01

the things they wanted yeah [Music] um but I believe we have a turntable of

  • 23:06

this as well so cool

  • 23:12

I love it it looks very good I like that hat it's perfectly made for hot summer

  • 23:18

days out on the tropics other option is you could take it off and use it as a little boat

  • 23:24

oh my gosh that's not a bad idea although it has holes in it it's more like a pasta strainer it looks

  • 23:31

like pasta strainer your fish strainer and

  • 23:36

then we're going to move in I know your favorite thing you guys some mounts but I promise you these are cool

  • 23:43

uh this one is the garden so pretty

  • 23:49

oh look at that guy this is a ginsy can

  • 23:54

you imagine just camouflaging into like a little foresty environment or a garden with him

  • 24:00

just walking around in the forest yes that is is pretty sweet and it do we

  • 24:07

have I was watching his animations get worked on it I don't I don't have the animation

  • 24:14

yeah the footage that uh was in there was not the I didn't want to show that

  • 24:19

so this guy you get updated ones he's a fun one yeah looks cool and then also

  • 24:26

interesting thing to note there I believe is that Those portions on the uh

  • 24:31

uh the branches yeah they interact with the wind as well it's like the cape on

  • 24:37

the character and the hat on the character and we have shown that there may be cases where certain

  • 24:45

mounts will interact with Seasons um if you've seen some of the Season Tech that we've done before there may be

  • 24:51

there may be mounts down the line that you know if they have leaves they change with the seasons and stuff like that

  • 24:57

which is really cool yes um sleep under that tree guy oh yeah that'd be cool you

  • 25:03

can have your Mount out without needing to be mounted on it you could definitely do some emotes to lay under him little

  • 25:09

RP sesh yeah your mouth will walk alongside you if you absolutely right on top of it

  • 25:14

um plume feather work that they did on I mean

  • 25:21

it's it's so good was this ginsey that did this this is a ginsy creation yeah oh it's so great yes I love it and the

  • 25:29

the the color composition um is just beautiful I mean it almost is

  • 25:35

it strikes me a little bit as a pheasant yeah so the inspiration for this one um

  • 25:40

I was designing it a while ago is like the well obviously first you because you're Ducks um so I wanted to make like a little Ode

  • 25:47

to that yeah a little homage to your Ducks um now that can eat these things we have

  • 25:54

one of those already it has like multiple wings too um but you know is probably animation's

  • 26:01

favorite thing for me they're like Margaret stop making so many wings um but this is like a a Chinese duck which

  • 26:09

is really cool like it there's actually ducks that exist like this that are really beautiful colors obviously ours

  • 26:16

is a little different take on it but inspired by yeah I do love Peking duck

  • 26:21

it's one of my favorite dishes um

  • 26:26

I don't know could you eat him found him in the wild I mean you're probably as big as his like leg good luck trying to

  • 26:33

eat him he's gonna eat you oh it's so good but I like the traditional Peking duck that's like the flat pancake uh you

  • 26:41

know not the bun yeah like the little the soft buns

  • 26:47

interesting I'm sorry I'm not trying to eat this man next up we have some creatures the first

  • 26:53

is a concept piece for one of the minotaurs we have the minotaurs are looking so thank you guys you guys are

  • 27:02

going to see these minotaurs in action next month actually Little League little

  • 27:08

teaser a little teaser I'm sorry you're gonna see these guys in game and

  • 27:14

combating a ranger oh it's gonna be fun they're so cool

  • 27:20

um the community team is like new race by the way this is just one class of the

  • 27:30

um yes of the Minotaur uh foes the Minotaur almost are like a

  • 27:36

player character raised to a degree they have many different classes of them that exist within the world that that you

  • 27:43

will be facing yeah they're pretty safe you have the one on the on the uh uh the pig

  • 27:50

I don't uh this was the only one I was given uh from that character artist are

  • 27:56

we able to do it live yeah if you send it to me I will I will put it live all right let me grab it real quick I'm so

  • 28:04

sorry Chad I just feel like you have got to say it's pretty cool it's pretty cool oh just wait just wait hold on I'm

  • 28:13

sending it right now directly to you in Slack standby and we'll snag it and pop it

  • 28:20

into the scene here we go and message and usually the artists kind of decide

  • 28:27

what they want to share every month because sometimes they're like oh it's not quite done so I don't want to share I know but Steven does have veto power

  • 28:36

don't yet let me wait it okay there you go okay oh let me

  • 28:47

is that this guy that you're about to see may have stages where during the

  • 28:54

combat when you reach a certain objective could be health-wise could be some mechanic that he will Dismount and

  • 29:02

take combat to foot um and and there's you will yes

  • 29:08

you will see there he is check that dude out and I'll kind of show you guys this

  • 29:16

is Holy Smokes it's a Minotaur writing

  • 29:21

okay wait a minute it's like a hog there it is like a hog yeah

  • 29:26

or hot warhog can you zoom in on it a little bit just zoom in uh yeah I can

  • 29:32

try to zoom in a little bit and you guys have seen how close our modelers are

  • 29:37

extraordinarily talented character artists bring to life Concepts very

  • 29:43

close to what the concept originally is and just wait until you get to Facebook do

  • 29:50

you want me to zoom on on him or the hobby zoom in on him on his face I just really like the detail

  • 29:58

um and I believe Lloyd our concept artist Lloyd has been doing these he's been an amazing job Lloyd

  • 30:05

bear man Pig Minotaur man Pig ooh can you get a closer yeah I probably

  • 30:13

hello sir can you get closer yeah yeah I can get closer how close you

  • 30:19

want like in the eyeball just like have the face be like you know

  • 30:24

probably 50 larger he might cover us oh actually I can figure I can do this yes

  • 30:30

this is the Margaret loves this by the way she really loves when she's challenged to perform on her feet

  • 30:37

we're doing it loud doing it live

  • 30:42

live production is fun though I agree live production is fun oh look

  • 30:49

at that look at his snout and the teeth

  • 30:55

oh my God yes I need to show that Jeremy send it to me Jeremy send it find it I said what is he doing there's one more

  • 31:01

there's one more and I'm I want to see if the chat can actually find in this

  • 31:07

next image uh detail a detail that's located on the body

  • 31:14

of the Minotaur okay and there's one specific thing about that detail that

  • 31:20

you guys I want to see if you can find okay let's see who finds it first in chat if they can first in chat to find

  • 31:27

the very specific cool detail on it Jeremy's like right now rushing to find

  • 31:32

it I'm sure you send me it oh Mike sent me all of them I guess they

  • 31:37

added them later oh I do have the other ones hold on I we we can we can move on to the next one

  • 31:44

while Jeremy finds it but it's it's coming up in a second here all right

  • 31:49

as soon as you send it to me Jeremy I will I will showcase it um all right next one is

  • 31:56

we have uh the snake creature this is not fully done but we you know

  • 32:03

we like to show you guys kind of like the different phases so you can see Concepts you can see models you can see

  • 32:08

the process this guy is in a t-pose and what that means is both from his arms

  • 32:15

that you see extended but more importantly the tail the tail is also t-post so um when this guy moves around

  • 32:22

he's going to be in a more interesting stance Tail's gonna get coiled a bit there's

  • 32:27

going to be variants of these types of snakes that are based on uh different types you're going to have like a black

  • 32:34

mamba version you're going to have a cobra version you're going to have a rattler version that comes off the tail

  • 32:41

um these guys are super cool like Naga style um okay here we go wait but that has a

  • 32:47

that has a interesting color version there

  • 32:52

um it's hard to tell where the center is okay yeah I'll send it over though I'll

  • 32:59

send this one yeah Mike you can send that one to um send that to Margaret and then Margaret Mike's going to send that

  • 33:04

over to you yeah these guys are super cool uh these are the inhabitants of a particular

  • 33:11

um dungeon oh perfect yes this is much better okay hold on wait I'm so sorry we're doing this live guys but I figure

  • 33:18

you're gonna love these I make a full run of show you guys I she does but you know what sometimes you just what do

  • 33:25

they say about plans no plans survives my plans survived the first shot or

  • 33:32

something first battle contact with the Enemy No plan survives contact with the Enemy right not saying

  • 33:39

no no but it is sometimes just fun to do things live

  • 33:44

um okay he sent me a bunch so I don't know if you want me to share all of these or okay just one that had the Lord

  • 33:51

the Lord okay the Lord the hunter one yeah Lord

  • 33:56

Hunter yep okay got it so okay now what you're looking for is

  • 34:01

on the Lord okay give me a second you're looking for the one on the Lord

  • 34:08

and if you want you want me to zoom in on him yeah okay all right it's a trophy it is a

  • 34:16

trophy somebody guessed it's a trophy what you're looking for is a trophy that the Lord has on his body somewhere what

  • 34:23

is that trophy there's something that gives it away he said Junior the talent let's set it

  • 34:31

he found a junior skull and what is it about that skull the dunier skull That's Unique the beard is attached to the

  • 34:37

skull so that's some lore that's a lore reveal you've just discovered that minotaurs

  • 34:44

don't like no not only that but that dwarves are born with the uh beard

  • 34:50

attached to their skull and it just takes time for the beard to grow out of the skin but the beard is there from

  • 34:57

start I zoomed in on the screen it's a baby beard that is true they have

  • 35:05

baby beards little baby beards little nine pound six ounce baby beards all

  • 35:10

right [Laughter] this is the content you guys came from

  • 35:15

came for all right next up we've got uh

  • 35:23

cyclops and you can see the scale of the person down in the bottom now this my friends

  • 35:31

is a world boss this is and can you see the scale

  • 35:38

yes it's a little this guy this guy takes a raid and he's one of the first

  • 35:43

bosses that you will encounter in the game he's gonna have some fun tactics one thing that's unique about this guy

  • 35:50

is he roams the riverlands he's not in one specific area he walks through the

  • 35:58

riverlands through different areas and different zones and you may see the silhouette of a giant figure between the

  • 36:06

trees and the distance and here his stomping ambient you know walking sounds

  • 36:11

he is he is a fun one to watch and move through and his this his encounter is

  • 36:17

going to be interesting you'll notice that he has a giant tree trunk there at the top

  • 36:22

I wonder what he uses that for smash

  • 36:28

I like that all right and I think I have another Minotaur that they would like to share

  • 36:35

so I'm gonna try to get that into the scene

  • 36:40

um here we're just gonna keep going back to the Minotaur for you guys uh another one yes

  • 36:45

we'll just show it all the minotaurs we're giving away the minotaurs this one is with the

  • 36:52

what else is on the shield he's a tanky tanky boy they call him Mr tankers

  • 36:58

Mr tanker mctakertons all right I like the skull and the the

  • 37:05

armor set on his shield now we'll take it a little bit more Whimsical and we have the ruling

  • 37:14

which Priscilla made yes Priscilla did such a great job with this oh wait yeah

  • 37:19

here we go do we have the absolutely oh there it is

  • 37:25

I can't wait till we get to the turntable okay turntable here you go there's an Easter egg on the back side

  • 37:33

you know how we like our our peaches our tushes

  • 37:39

he's got a little potato bud how many times can you say in a game you've seen a potato bud

  • 37:46

honestly no if I've seen a potato bug before Mr Potato Man doesn't have a potato Bud

  • 37:53

he just has like a one lump this is the thick potato it's a pretty thick potato

  • 38:02

and uh from there from creatures we're going to move into some of the raised stuff so you all did see the Imperium

  • 38:10

for the first time really with the new uh Concepts and here is our lovely lady

  • 38:18

so you can kind of see it all right this is the first time for the actual new

  • 38:23

Imperium Imperium model that people have seen right

  • 38:28

they've seen the concept which was last month and now you're seeing the the motto

  • 38:35

yes she's not angry she's determined she's she's serious she has she has a

  • 38:41

exactly she's focused she's serious it is time to expand the Imperium if I look

  • 38:49

angry it's just because I'm focused I mean yeah but you gotta you got to get in her head like what is it that her is

  • 38:54

driving her right and part of that drive I think for the Imperium is to spread

  • 39:01

the imperian influence throughout the realm of era um and that's where that that to me is

  • 39:07

what she's communicating with her facial expression right yeah they have a very militaristic backgrounds that makes

  • 39:14

sense some would say militaristic some would say a more aggressive form of

  • 39:19

negotiation right militaristic no aggressive form of negotiations

  • 39:24

everything so much in life is perspective and you just got to look at

  • 39:30

it from her perspective all right could see it I got you

  • 39:35

this one somebody said a resting elf face the resting outfits like a great resting

  • 39:42

elf face next step the nicoon so we've made some changes to

  • 39:48

them a bit uh similarly to some of the other races Steven has kind of taken a little bit of a direction change so

  • 39:54

hopefully you all like it yeah I think it gives a lot of character to them that

  • 39:59

I love they're so cool

  • 40:09

there's a bunch of them do we have a few more yeah yes

  • 40:16

the nekoons the other other Dwarven meat

  • 40:22

um yes these guys have a lot of Rich background and culture

  • 40:28

um that I think is pretty unique from a fantasy uh you know it's a little

  • 40:34

atypical from the traditional you know fantasy tropes about dwarves um and I thought it was time to innovate

  • 40:41

in that space right and so we we took we took a bit of that of that Polynesian

  • 40:46

influence um you know those those more Islander cultures and even the real world and we

  • 40:52

we took that and how can we apply that to a fantasy race like dwarves

  • 40:58

um and really make something interesting there and these these guys are pretty pretty awesome I appreciate it the

  • 41:05

Filipino the Filipino part of me is like yeah yes that knows that's very like

  • 41:10

Islander I like somebody somebody said somebody says the s s fandians

  • 41:17

yeah so these are these are the males we won't be showing the females this time but we are going to show a race that we

  • 41:24

haven't really shown in a long long time um and third New Direction as well which

  • 41:30

is the velune and this will be both male and female so here we go the reveal

  • 41:37

yes they're so cool

  • 41:43

the velune are pretty awesome and and I want to point out something that you are not necessarily seeing here

  • 41:51

in these in the in the concepts but the velune have an interesting

  • 41:58

uh lineage and there is some influence there that when the velunes step through

  • 42:05

the portal some portions of their body begin to exhibit this almost

  • 42:13

Essence like rupture in the skin and um you guys are going to see some

  • 42:18

examples of that in the future um and it is a bit of some Gin influence

  • 42:25

in their lineage as a race that kind of sets them apart from their klar counterparts and I think that's going to

  • 42:33

be pretty pretty interesting all right well hopefully you all like seeing that

  • 42:40

I'm sure you'll share your feedback with us and then I have a little Beetle animation

  • 42:49

so these are the these are a bunch of beetle combat atoms I like Wendy yeah knocks over on his

  • 42:56

back and stuff it's cool and you're gonna see a lot of variants of these beetles

  • 43:01

excuse me as even combat monsters we might swap off the type of horns and the

  • 43:08

design of those horns there's gonna be pallet changes and designs on the wings that will be variant options

  • 43:15

um and you will see more ornate versions of these types of creatures as you move

  • 43:21

through uh the the Realms of Vera um you know this is all kind of how we

  • 43:29

build up some of these creatures so that they're multi-purpose from a Content level perspective as you progress within

  • 43:35

the world right and we're all familiar with that and a lot of the MMOs that we played oh look at it fell in its back yeah

  • 43:42

he gets back up he's fine yeah this guy's like the sorry of the size of a Volkswagen uh bug

  • 43:49

[Music] some of them can be not all of them are but some can be uh relatively large oh

  • 43:56

my gosh we saw how scary like a swarm of butterflies just can be because they were doing some like visual effects

  • 44:02

showcases and it was pretty horrifying when there's a lot of little tiny things

  • 44:08

coming your way yeah um and then never have you ever when you have I don't know if you've ever lived like in the midwest

  • 44:13

or in the or in the south at all oh yeah yeah I lived in Alabama oh that's right

  • 44:19

okay so during the Summers did you ever have those June bugs that would like fly in and they would land on you and when

  • 44:25

they gripped you they would like like literally almost tear your skin off if you try to flick them off of you no

  • 44:31

nothing ever landed at me like that that's that support I've seen June bugs but I've never had my land I have have

  • 44:39

had a June bug land on your skin yes thank you thank you I can't believe

  • 44:46

you've never expected I just run away when there's a big bug flying around oh they have like a death grab so when I

  • 44:53

see this guy give them the opportunity to land on me yeah but when I see that well sometimes you just play with them right so actually sometimes in the

  • 45:00

midwest you'll see trees with like these little sacks that collect the June bugs they like have like yeah and they're like it's really sad actually but

  • 45:06

um this guy's feet he they remind me of a June bug a little bit

  • 45:12

uh oh wait didn't mean to show that we're not we're not We're not gonna show that sorry whoops okay what are we not

  • 45:18

showing nope nothing um nothing no oh my god um moving on from there

  • 45:24

was it the toes no no they saw nothing nothing happened there you literally

  • 45:31

just scratched probably a lot of different people's foot um

  • 45:37

[Laughter]

  • 45:45

he just said that to me and I was like all right I'll I'll see what I can do um so from there we have some really

Design Update

  • 45:52

cool design stuff and this is gonna get meaty so get your pens out get your piece of paper out wait am I

  • 45:59

getting pen what am I doing no not you them all right the stuff you're about to tell them about the design updates right

  • 46:06

yeah right so you want to preface the first part here of all the amazing stuff they've been

  • 46:12

working on what are we showing first let's start with the should we start with the world map yeah let's start I

  • 46:17

think that's the best way to start because it kind of sets the precedent for everything else oh let me let me

  • 46:22

just breathe for a second all right I'm ready so

  • 46:28

we're a little wacky today what I would like to say before I know you know what it's the end of a really long week yeah

  • 46:36

and this is what happens this is what happens when the week is long you can even hear it in my voice I've been

  • 46:41

talking so much that my voice is like raspy yeah I told someone else I was

  • 46:47

like I don't want to talk for like the whole weekend I know so I apologize for

  • 46:52

the raspy voice but okay now in the past you have seen before we

  • 46:58

show this map you have seen um our old world map and I told you a few

  • 47:06

months ago that um this year we've made some significant

  • 47:12

changes to that world map a lot of those changes were rooted in a few things

  • 47:18

um one as as we've been prepping and building for Alpha two

  • 47:26

we have had some real coming to

  • 47:32

um coming to Norland moments [Music]

  • 47:38

but where we've had to we've had to talk about as these large pois as nodes are being

  • 47:45

placed as those areas are being defined uh for free holds for roads for

  • 47:54

um you know everything that exists within a zone or the world

  • 48:00

how is the spacing for that right and you can do

  • 48:06

you know some portion of estimation based on simple math documentation you

  • 48:13

can plan things out but the moment you start you know really getting a feel for

  • 48:18

those things in the world no no good plan even lasts first contact

  • 48:23

with the Enemy right that same same concept here we had a plan for this theme this is the theme the

  • 48:32

plan that the plan had to change and it had to change because there's nothing more important than

  • 48:39

being in the engine building those things and feeling those things out right and our level design team

  • 48:47

um with Jason and Ben and and and Chris on the Node side uh Bucky like helping

  • 48:55

kind of uh in building Alpha 2 and prepping for Alpha two we've been

  • 49:00

defining that density that content density in the world and it required that we made the map a

  • 49:08

bit bigger um to facilitate that can I show it now

  • 49:15

uh give me one second okay hold on well there's one more thing okay okay all right one more thing I'm excited to

  • 49:21

share with you guys a the the purpose of it becoming bigger is as I said to make

  • 49:29

sure that that density isn't overwhelming right that it isn't everywhere I look there is immediately

  • 49:36

something I have no opportunity to see you know areas of the world that are

  • 49:42

expansive and are you know just kind of Wanderlust Adventure feeling right you

  • 49:48

didn't want you you were sitting everything was sitting on top of you have pois and nodes and houses and everything right it was like an urban

  • 49:54

area everywhere now but but um we wanted to expand that because a

  • 49:59

large portion of the game is a Sandbox element right it's coupled with a lot of

  • 50:05

curated content but that sandbox element so what you're about to see

  • 50:10

is also going to include a change in

  • 50:15

some of the continents that you previously knew in their shapes in their

  • 50:20

orientation you're going to see two new very large islands um also that were Incorporated for a lot

  • 50:27

of the naval play as we've been disc as we've been doing the neighborhood so now with that being said we shall show you

  • 50:36

the new world map in all its 1200 square kilometer Glory

  • 50:45

it's gorgeous look at it so while they're looking at this can you

  • 50:52

go into more detail on the specific land mass changes and why you guys made those I kind of I think you started with

  • 50:58

talking about the islands as well absolutely absolutely so you're gonna see some names here a little bit of a

  • 51:05

reveal of some of these locations in these areas and you're also of course seeing similar

  • 51:11

um uh the uh the biomes that are present as well

  • 51:16

um but more importantly what you are seeing is the orientation of these continents and these islands that are

  • 51:25

facilitating specific types of InterContinental trade gameplay and they

  • 51:32

support the relevance of these Caravans moving across the land mass to locations

  • 51:40

that will now incorporate these Harbor areas which aren't identified on the map here we didn't want to share that ahead

  • 51:46

of time of course but I had I had Mike remove a lot you moved a lot of removed

  • 51:52

a lot of stuff there were many layers we'll show some more of this stuff as we move on but

  • 51:57

um in in future streams but the important part was providing a lot

  • 52:03

of coastal Naval gameplay between these zones and trade routes between land base

  • 52:10

now if we talk about the surface area of the land compared to that of the ocean

  • 52:18

um let me bring up my handy handy handy um little spreadsheet that I had with

  • 52:25

that stuff there okay here we go when we talk about um the the size of the world of the

  • 52:34

world uh land area um that is the ocean and lakes are

  • 52:39

roughly 750 square kilometers of space so much

  • 52:46

and on land you have about uh you have about

  • 52:52

450 to 480 square kilometers of land play so there's not too much that has

  • 52:59

been added on the land side as there has been greater separation between the continents a reorientation of those

  • 53:06

continents additional Bays that have been included and those two major islands that are on each of the ends and

  • 53:13

by the way those islands are a throwback to we added those as a throwback to part of what what happens in the story from

  • 53:20

the original Ashes of Creation Pathfinder campaign some plus decade plus ago

  • 53:26

um so the original map of this was from your campaign I know I know yeah they

  • 53:31

had a lot of that stuff um so now when we talk about the under realm which I know is a lot of

  • 53:37

conversation about Underground the under Realm is intending to be bespoke segments of

  • 53:46

underrealm territory that are available around areas of choke point in the world

  • 53:53

map that are above ground which are provided

  • 53:58

for Caravan Transit across the world so those Caravans as they're approaching these choke points on land they will

  • 54:05

have alternate route options to go down into the underrealm and to try to Traverse that space as opposed to the

  • 54:11

choke points and that is a very important part so this Underground map which we'll reveal in a future stream

  • 54:17

you'll have kind of an idea a little bit about where those under Realms live as a layer across this this Overland area

  • 54:24

that is an important part about land Transit and of course Caravans so what

  • 54:29

I'm going to talk to you now about which has um you guys I don't think have received this in the past is kind of

  • 54:35

context around movement speed and the distance traveled

  • 54:41

between nodes and what those are currently hovering around so when we talk about how long it takes

  • 54:49

to run across a node to move across a maximum sized node which is a stage six

  • 54:56

Metropolis stage it takes around two minutes and 50 seconds for you to run

  • 55:01

entirely from one end of a metropolis's plug to another end of a metropolis

  • 55:08

which is a significant amount of time of course if you're mounted that'll take about one and a half minutes

  • 55:14

um or 1.67 I guess um if you are trying to move from node

  • 55:21

to node and it's important to note that node to node this doesn't mean that it's a built node

  • 55:26

to a built node this means it's a directly neighboring node you're moving to and sometimes that node might not be

  • 55:32

active right because it's been locked out from advancing due to the stage of a node uh to its neighbor but the distance

  • 55:40

traveled between without a mount just running is about five minutes from node to node

  • 55:46

um while moving from node from the center of a node a to let's say node B if you were mounted

  • 55:53

it would take you roughly uh three and a half minutes or so I'm sorry actually

  • 55:59

take you five minutes from Center to center from from side to side it would take you about three and a half minutes

  • 56:05

um if you were to move across the height of the world map down to the other

  • 56:11

location of the world map of one continent let's say that would take you about 50 minutes now

  • 56:17

here's the interesting thing we've said always in the past that the

  • 56:23

the world changes as the as the node States develop or progress so that means that

  • 56:30

when a scientific node reaches a metropolis level that the vassal network of that

  • 56:36

Metropolis will now incorporate teleportation as an option and in that

  • 56:41

sense you may feel travel very differently between the start of a server

  • 56:46

and the server four months down the line um and that is meant to accompany that

  • 56:52

that progression is meant to accompany the advancement of the average player population as well right if you travel

  • 57:00

around yeah I don't want to interrupt you but people are wondering if you said 50 50 or 15 one five so I just want to

  • 57:06

clarify five zero five five zero yes absolutely from one from the top of one

  • 57:11

continents right not uh Mount oh sorry that is um Mountain on foot on foot it

  • 57:21

is uh 75 minutes there you go yes thank you

  • 57:28

um so why is travel important we've talked about this in the past you know the reasons why we've all existed in games

  • 57:35

where teleportation is very easy to to use and sometimes that can be a

  • 57:41

detriment because you may have activities like a caravan run that's happening and one person sees you from a

  • 57:46

certain Guild and they do the raid call out to their Guild everyone open your portals and come here within a split

  • 57:52

second and we're going to just you know mob this group no well instead that

  • 57:58

opportunity doesn't exist if you want to provoke or to gank uh you know an

  • 58:04

operation of another guild you need to have four knowledge you need to prepare you need to place your forces around

  • 58:11

that area and that's an important that is an important aspect in addition it

  • 58:17

makes that travel meaningful right if if you are having to spend time to move to

  • 58:23

a location you're going to think about what can I do along the way why am I moving to that location how is it more

  • 58:29

beneficial for me to be in that location versus where I am now right this is also in in association with the fact that you

  • 58:36

are a citizen of a particular note and that node needs your assistance within its vicinity and if you want to move

  • 58:42

outside of that vicinity there should be a really good reason for that and there's lots of great reasons for it right there's trade there's treasure

  • 58:48

hunting there's content that you want to complete there's pois that you want to visit and drop tables that you want to

  • 58:54

have access to like resource materials that you can gather and bring back these are all important elements of

  • 59:00

regionalizing these locations and making Transit between those locations relevant

  • 59:06

that is an important aspect what is very important however

  • 59:12

is that that Transit doesn't feel meaningless doesn't feel uh uh um

  • 59:21

um what's the word doesn't feel tedious right there should be activities along

  • 59:26

the way there should be anxiety in moving along the way there should be you

  • 59:32

know things that get your your heart moving in the gameplay right that is the important thing oh my God are we going

  • 59:37

over time oh my God we will be going super overtime but uh I talk too much no

  • 59:43

no I talk too much um the the other part of that is people are asking I know we've answered this

  • 59:49

question before but uh for those of them who are newer here they're asking if the world is flat or if it is round the

  • 59:57

world oh so we do not have World wrap and what that means is you can't walk off the west side of the map and enter

  • 1:00:03

in on the east side of the map right that is another important aspect of it

  • 1:00:08

um so that is also important as well all right um what do we have next so in this

  • 1:00:14

segment we also wanted to kind of talk about how the players will interact between PVP

  • 1:00:20

and the Open Seas and I don't know if you want to go into a little bit more details call good call good call thank

  • 1:00:26

you no problem all right so um another important change that has occurred

  • 1:00:31

is the Open Seas is now an automatic flagged location

  • 1:00:37

so when you move off of land right we have a flagging system that protects

  • 1:00:44

and the Open Seas are international waters where you need to be careful

  • 1:00:49

and there is a lot of opportunity at Sea and because there's a lot of opportunity

  • 1:00:55

that's unique to that content that's unique to that sea that's treasure finding that's NPCs that's a lot of

  • 1:01:01

different stuff there needs to be risk associated with opportunity we've always said risk and reward right opportunity

  • 1:01:08

and risk that's how you weigh actions and players now know when they move into

  • 1:01:14

the Open Sea they are doing so in a method that requires them to be

  • 1:01:20

cognizant of their players surroundings who is near me who can mess with me who

  • 1:01:26

who do I need to make friends with who do I know my enemies are who can I Forge

  • 1:01:31

alliances with how can I create flotillas of protection right these are things that as a dynamic of political

  • 1:01:40

Intrigue um and the seas are a great place for that we always know about the stories of like privateering and you know the

  • 1:01:47

ability to kind of work under anonymity um well you're going to know who's attacking you but uh it's important to

  • 1:01:54

note that you're prepared you need to be prepared for that and that is a that is a big that is a big

  • 1:02:00

um change that we you know have made several months ago that we're revealing

  • 1:02:06

to you now and that's also needing to be a topic of conversation this I would love to get feedback right now I'm

  • 1:02:11

seeing a lot of yays in chat um and we need to take those yays and we

  • 1:02:19

need to go on Reddit we need to go on our forums and we need to talk about this mechanical change

  • 1:02:24

um because in my opinion this this type of change creates a very compelling type

  • 1:02:30

of gameplay um and not everybody is excited about PVP but as I've always said ashes of

  • 1:02:38

creation is not meant to be the game for everyone right there are a lot of games where it is entirely safe to exist on a

  • 1:02:45

server and you don't have to worry about threats or risk right it's just all opportunity I know I'll eventually get

  • 1:02:51

the trophy right I just need to I just need to run in the hamster wheel a bit longer and then I'm going to get there

  • 1:02:56

like that everyone gets that trophy what we want to do with ashes is we want to gotta work for it re rethink that

  • 1:03:04

approach right we want to we want to encourage intelligent calculations of risk versus

  • 1:03:11

reward right these are elements that I think players feel really accomplished

  • 1:03:16

when they know that they overcame risk for the trophy right that not everybody makes it but I did the biggest moments

  • 1:03:24

that I remember from MMOs have always been the ones that we you know it was a trial and tribulation for like the the

  • 1:03:31

big raid boss getting World forced on that and how challenging it was uh so

  • 1:03:37

for me I'm I love the challenge of those things so we're excited to see what you guys think on that front definitely tell

  • 1:03:43

us absolutely leave us your feedback all the good the goodness now you will be notified when you do that right we have

  • 1:03:49

a very intuitive UI that that as you approach the border between open sea and

  • 1:03:55

Coastal area you are notified of that you are warned ahead of time there's a countdown When approaching we

  • 1:04:01

interpolate the you know distance travel and speed you're moving um and and you get to see ah I'm

  • 1:04:07

entering open Waters and when you you do you have this big trophy call out on screen that says you know you have

  • 1:04:13

entered the Open Sea you know territory fraud or you know whatever like it is it

  • 1:04:18

is it it is something that PVP is not the only thing you have to worry about if you've seen some of the creatures we

  • 1:04:24

have in the water they're all so scary too very good point thank you man that

  • 1:04:29

is a super good point is this not just Danger from players it's dangerous from from content too yeah

  • 1:04:34

now that we've talked about the map uh what are the node changes that have been

  • 1:04:40

made I know there's been some drastic node changes from the number of nodes that you have on the map to correct so

  • 1:04:49

how vassal nodes work has changed as well absolutely so there's a few things I'm not sure how much in the past we've

  • 1:04:55

talked a little bit about the hierarchy of node structures when they um when they consume additional node

  • 1:05:02

zones of Interest around them and incorporate them into a vassal-like structure there's specific relationships

  • 1:05:08

that occur between parent and vassal lots of benefits right it is not a bad

  • 1:05:14

thing to be vasseled it is a good thing to be vassal it brings many benefits

  • 1:05:21

from The Sovereign which is the the ultimate parent of that vassal Network down to the vassal node itself

  • 1:05:29

and it allows that vassal node to even live outside of its normal

  • 1:05:34

mechanics right you get to adopt some of the benefits that the node type of your

  • 1:05:39

Sovereign is even if your node type as a vassal node isn't the same and

  • 1:05:47

um what was the question how many uh oh how

  • 1:05:53

many notes so we have moved from a 103

  • 1:05:58

nodes to 85 nodes and there's a few reasons for that

  • 1:06:04

um one when we were doing the um uh the calculations behind how in

  • 1:06:11

Alpha 2 and in in the game we want these vassal structures to exist we had more

  • 1:06:17

nodes than what felt meaningful and we wanted to condense some of that those

  • 1:06:23

curated story arcs and hooks into the environment and realm around the areas

  • 1:06:29

um to be more Bountiful at at a lesser node value meaning Bringing Down the

  • 1:06:36

node count so that we can increase increase the richness of each of those nodes more than what was at 103. in

  • 1:06:42

addition as a very yeah sorry there's some questions to that okay I'll show them the vassal node stuff yeah

  • 1:06:48

absolutely we can show them so the there's a couple questions here one is does that mean there's going to be less

  • 1:06:54

housing for people and then the other um element of that is because the world

  • 1:06:59

map is so much larger are we going to increase the amount of players that are on a server which currently we've stated

  • 1:07:05

is 10 000. um right now we are still keeping the concurrent server

  • 1:07:12

um population at eight to ten thousand although I will say this that our networking team has been doing

  • 1:07:17

an absolutely phenomenal job on our custom Network solution um you guys saw

  • 1:07:22

it in alpha one with the density of players that we had available during our Castle sieges felt very fluid

  • 1:07:28

um there was not a lot of rubber banding There Was You Know performance was good

  • 1:07:34

um now what you are seeing here is the vassal node structure and

  • 1:07:42

um this this vassal mode structure tells you what it looks like for a sovereign

  • 1:07:47

at a level six Metropolis stage and what it can control at a maximum vassal

  • 1:07:54

network is two level five nodes of which a level five node can control

  • 1:08:00

one level four and one level three as direct vassals and then the four can

  • 1:08:06

control a three and every three can control a one or a two now if the three

  • 1:08:12

gets removed through Siege the one or the two is removed as well

  • 1:08:18

um so that's an important distinction between the three's vassals which technically isn't really a vast relationship because there's no

  • 1:08:24

citizenships possible those vassals don't exist between three and X but they do exist between four and three five and

  • 1:08:30

four and six and fives um and what this also allows is that because there are 85 nodes that are

  • 1:08:37

within the world we have a buffer zone of about 20 nodes that lives in a Max

  • 1:08:44

server state so if you had maximum five metropolises form in a world

  • 1:08:49

you will have a number about 20 nodes that can live alongside those that those

  • 1:08:54

Metropolis networks and when or if a metropolis Falls

  • 1:08:59

that extra cushion of nodes around the five Metropolis structures allows for

  • 1:09:06

the map to be redistricted in a way that is unique it doesn't mean that one of the fives is just going to pick up where

  • 1:09:12

the last six left off and form the same exact Metropolis structure from a

  • 1:09:17

territory perspective it has ancillary nodes to play with and expand towards

  • 1:09:23

that redistricts the map so that if a metropolis Falls there's a significant

  • 1:09:28

difference in the layout of the world and the layout of these almost nation-like territories and that's one

  • 1:09:36

of the that's one of the uh important aspects of that right somebody said too many neurons

  • 1:09:42

firing it was a lot um and obviously for those

  • 1:09:48

of you who maybe don't know uh how you know you take over cities and things of that sort

  • 1:09:54

um definitely check out our other content we share a lot of that information I know that we do have some

  • 1:09:59

vassal node information up on our website that will need to be adjusted with this new information so we may put

  • 1:10:05

some new uh information out there as well but um and by the way I just just

  • 1:10:10

want to showcase as we look at this Vaseline Network we talked about a lot of benefits that get conferred down from

  • 1:10:16

The Sovereign or the parent to the vassals but what we didn't talk about

  • 1:10:21

was the benefits that the parents or sovereigns receive and of course that

  • 1:10:26

lives in the realm of Taxation I noticed that there was some commentary by

  • 1:10:31

content creators in some communities about you know concerns of other games that collected taxes within nodes and

  • 1:10:38

you know guilds got to use those taxes it's very important to note that taxes are a one hundred percent sink they do

  • 1:10:46

not go into the hands of players when something gets taxed mayor doesn't have access to it guilds don't have access to

  • 1:10:52

it what happens is the nodes get the Taxation and someone manages the note

  • 1:10:58

and that's usually the mayor but if a node needs to start a construction project if they need to hire defenses

  • 1:11:05

mercenaries if they need to improve the equipment of their guards if they want to activate commissions and or buy

  • 1:11:11

orders if they want to do a lot of stand-up social organizations all the things that nodes do

  • 1:11:17

comes out of that Treasury and comes out of the maintenance and generation of resources that the node has access to

  • 1:11:23

nobody gets to take that gold there is not a there is not a power conferred to

  • 1:11:29

guilds or players by being mayor that is a very important part

  • 1:11:34

um that we need to make sure people understand and are aware of and we've said that for a long time

  • 1:11:39

um but one other thing is that as a vassal feeding the parent when the vassal reaches its cap it overflows

  • 1:11:47

experience up to the parent right and so it can be very good early on for vat for

  • 1:11:53

parents to get vassal nodes that are very productive that have a lot of traffic right they do something right

  • 1:11:58

and you kind of you kind of want to capitalize on that as a parent note but in addition

  • 1:12:04

the parent node um also gets that taxation as well and

  • 1:12:10

that's an important important aspect um and then just to clarify because you

  • 1:12:16

have mentioned that there's five metropoli as the maximum amount of level

  • 1:12:21

six nodes you can have uh is that five still for both the upper realm and under

  • 1:12:29

realm or that is that is five across the world yes that is five entirely

  • 1:12:40

do you want to transition over into talking about one of the new system was which is like policies which we haven't

  • 1:12:47

really talked a ton about yes absolutely so this is

  • 1:12:52

these are just some examples that I'm going to have in the background playing so oh nice you have examples that's cool

  • 1:12:57

oh yes absolutely awesome um so it is important to note

  • 1:13:03

um you know uh one of our great uh technical designers uh uh Jason Neal has

  • 1:13:08

been working um heavily on the concept of happiness and policies and these are some of the

  • 1:13:16

things that citizens get to vote on that are proposed by their mayor

  • 1:13:21

um and it's a very short voting period but nodes have a number of slots that they get to employ as Government

  • 1:13:28

policies that are enacted and chosen by the mayor and voted on by the people

  • 1:13:34

um and certain policies get unlocked by certain happiness states of the factions

  • 1:13:39

within the note and those happiness states are predicated across different achievements

  • 1:13:44

that can happen in the world story arcs that get finished bosses that get killed around you new buildings that

  • 1:13:51

get constructed lots of different things can contribute to that happiness value number of citizens number of citizens

  • 1:13:58

you've had leave uh you know a number of houses that it might have been foreclosed upon like there's lots of different things that influence it

  • 1:14:04

but when the happiness is met at a certain point and even without that happiness you can

  • 1:14:10

still have policies that you get to enact regardless you may choose policies that do certain things for the node

  • 1:14:17

and this is a big strategic decision that the node has to almost agree on because it's voted on by the citizens

  • 1:14:23

within a short time period but elected by the by the outstanding mayor and when

  • 1:14:29

you deploy a policy it confers benefits to the citizens or to the area or to

  • 1:14:37

specific buildings or to the mayor or there's a lot of different things that policies can influence and policies

  • 1:14:43

exist within certain denominations you have some policies that might be reflective of the culture that the node

  • 1:14:49

is representing and you get access to those cultural policies you have some policies that might become available

  • 1:14:54

because you've constructed a certain building type and now you've attracted a guild of NPCs that are weapons myths you

  • 1:15:00

might have some policies that are social organizations representative you only get to build one social organization or

  • 1:15:05

Temple which religion does the node follow all of these are customization points that the city gets to choose and

  • 1:15:11

now you as a citizen get to identify the city that best aligns with your progression within the game and your

  • 1:15:16

game style style and gameplay right so those are elements of how you make your home sorry yeah there's some questions

  • 1:15:23

in regards to if those policies affect just the Metropolis or the city that

  • 1:15:28

you're in or if they trickle down to the vassal nodes as well very good question yeah so we talked a

  • 1:15:35

little bit earlier we were talking about the vassal structures that some of the benefits you can receive by being a

  • 1:15:41

vassal of a certain parent is access to a policy that your node not might not

  • 1:15:46

normally have access to and in fact you can also unlock an additional policy

  • 1:15:51

slot based on certain conditions that the parent or or Sovereign node may have

  • 1:15:57

access to in their reliquary or in their achievement systems or in uh policies

  • 1:16:02

that they've elected some policies occupy multiple slots and it's almost like a card structure right you have

  • 1:16:08

each of these policies that live on a card and you get to select that card throw it into the slot it goes out to

  • 1:16:14

the citizens to vote on within the 24-hour or sometimes shorter period the mayor has emergency actions they can

  • 1:16:19

take right depending on certain predicates that get met and if an emergency action occurs they may be able

  • 1:16:25

to spend their influence as mayor within their term to set up a policy for a vote within an hours period of time and

  • 1:16:32

citizens you know in that way they can sneak it through a bit I might not have been on in that hour like I come back and there's been some executive action

  • 1:16:39

determined by the mayor what the heck is going on here this better be a good decision or we're going to vote your butt out next election cycle right like

  • 1:16:45

these are these are elements that you get to that you get to incorporate um yes that would be a moment where the

  • 1:16:52

mayor might say I am the Senate right and then he looks at the citizens and

  • 1:16:57

says it's treason then no no I'm just kidding I know we have a lot of other things we want to get to too so

  • 1:17:04

um the next thing that I wanted to bring up was happiness which is another element and system that we haven't

  • 1:17:10

really talked about as well yes um the happiness as I just kind of

  • 1:17:15

described um is basically a set of predicates that are influenced by certain actions at the

  • 1:17:21

American conductor or that the citizens get access to um and these these just serve as the

  • 1:17:27

door opener or closer for certain types of policies to be allowed to be selected

  • 1:17:33

to a vote by the citizens right so for example you may have you could call it morale people well yeah yeah

  • 1:17:41

that that happiness could be in the dumps your people could be very unhappy they could be to the point of of

  • 1:17:48

revolting right and that might turn off certain NPCs they may go on strike they

  • 1:17:54

may not be accessible but if you're really unhappy you might be able to

  • 1:18:00

place in a certain policy that's like um a military

  • 1:18:06

um shoot I can't my mind cannot think today I am just dead at the end of this weekend I'm so sorry it's okay

  • 1:18:14

um we're following along with you what's the military thing not martial law thank you uh it might be

  • 1:18:20

a martial law policy and that martial law policy might be really helpful when it comes to prepping for a Siege

  • 1:18:27

um that is something that allows you uh maybe to increase the number of conscripted mercenaries that you have at

  • 1:18:34

your allotment it might be able um to go into debt in the treasury for

  • 1:18:40

purchasing upgrades to the you know to the walls and the gates uh or to place barricades and set curfews you know like

  • 1:18:46

there's things that can be done around happiness that's important

  • 1:18:54

all right um and then I think there's some questions regarding does changes in a

  • 1:18:59

node count uh change available to player housing so if we have I think I asked

  • 1:19:06

you this question but you didn't quite answer it in regards to we have less nodes does that mean there's going to be less player housing space Etc uh no so

  • 1:19:14

we have Target numbers when it comes to the amount of static housing apartment housing in in areas and Freehold space

  • 1:19:23

um and those values don't change um right we are we are going to hit those targets based on the concurrency

  • 1:19:29

uh objectives that we have for the server between eight to ten thousand players and the number of registered users we want to have on the server the

  • 1:19:37

goal is that those those versions of housing live in different competitive

  • 1:19:43

markets um and that competitive market is going to set average player value between

  • 1:19:49

player to player uh transactions that of course grows with wealth as wealth gets

  • 1:19:54

introduced into the economy over time um but you know we want to have a an

  • 1:19:59

equitable amount that's necessary to create um scarcity right

  • 1:20:06

um to create a meaning for why I would purchase a home

  • 1:20:11

um um uh within the world or within a city right and why that price is there

  • 1:20:17

all right and I know we have one more thing we want to discuss which is Caravans and that system has had a bit

  • 1:20:26

of a new overhaul as well so do we want to start first with how commissioning a

  • 1:20:31

caravan works now and then we'll get into the each of the other steps yes we

  • 1:20:37

can talk about it um and I'm just gonna play a kind of a slideshow of some of

  • 1:20:42

the cool if I could ask um one of my producers actually who might be watching the show to order

  • 1:20:49

lunch for my writers uh uh sync that I have after this that would be great

  • 1:20:56

because I totally forgot to do that somebody on the team let a producer know to order lunch let them know awesome

  • 1:21:02

thank you so so to answer um too guys we love doing it live this is

  • 1:21:09

how comfortable we feel with the community right we'll just we you know you we might as well just have a camera in the office that runs and follows us

  • 1:21:16

around as we're doing don't tempt them they want that Steven I know I'm so sorry

  • 1:21:21

um what was the question this was commissioning a caravan work we'll start

  • 1:21:28

there all right so remember we talked about you know players create um components right that live on the

  • 1:21:34

Caravan and that indicates a lot of different stat values of the Caravan it could be turning radius turning speed it

  • 1:21:41

could be movement speed it could be um it could be armor Health uh damage

  • 1:21:48

mitigation all that kind of stuff right um you do that at a care of answering

  • 1:21:53

and a care of answering is a default building type that gets um that comes along with every node it

  • 1:22:00

has upgrade paths um the node can can upgrade that Caravans rebuilding um for certain features uh that are beneficial

  • 1:22:07

but when you want to launch a caravan you have must first had a caravan that's

  • 1:22:13

constructed at the care of answering and in order to construct Caravan of the care of answer you go to the care of answering and you say hey I've got all

  • 1:22:19

these components and I want to construct Caravan and and the Caravans will accept the components that you have it will use

  • 1:22:26

those components if you don't have components for certain parts of the Caravan it will give you default versions which will be kind of lowest stat value that that Caravan can then

  • 1:22:32

have and when the Caravan is constructed it will be hosted at that caravansary

  • 1:22:38

and if you want to launch a caravan you will select the Caravan you have available at the Cancer Care of

  • 1:22:43

answering you will then be provided with a UI screen that shows you the compartments of availability for storage

  • 1:22:49

that the Caravan has you can assign those compartments to members of a party

  • 1:22:55

or named interest you can apply insurance if you want for any pieces of

  • 1:23:01

those storage and it can go into escrow and if the Caravan ever gets destroyed

  • 1:23:06

that escrow will go to the named player and that's how we kind of set up that transactional uh facilitate that

  • 1:23:13

transaction between players if they want to do those things and then when you want to launch your

  • 1:23:19

Caravan so if you prep your Caravan it's going to be in a launch ready State and you can launch a caravan whenever you want keep it in the launch ready state

  • 1:23:25

if you click to launch the Caravan your perspective will leave to a world map perspective that sits above the node and

  • 1:23:33

you will have a 360 line that lives outside of the node area at a good

  • 1:23:40

distance roughly about 100 to 150 meters from the note and you will spawn the

  • 1:23:45

Caravan there and it will take about two to five minutes depending on some of the

  • 1:23:51

upgrades that the Caravan 3 has for that Caravan to spawn outside the node at

  • 1:23:56

that location during that time you can teleport to that launch location which

  • 1:24:01

is just outside the node from the node itself that way people can't follow you see your node that's see your Caravan

  • 1:24:08

that's about to leave or whatever but you can let your players know hey if you're part of my group you can all

  • 1:24:13

support with me and will spawn at the location that the Caravans getting constructed that once the Caravan little construction site is finished your

  • 1:24:19

Caravan is ready to to mount and you're ready to move along the way with it as

  • 1:24:25

you approach cities care of answers will confer a radius around the node and that

  • 1:24:32

radius will be something visual to you in the world as you're approaching another note and you will see a line and

  • 1:24:39

a kind of um uh disembark line where when you cross

  • 1:24:44

that line you've reached the safety zone and that that line cross is outside of

  • 1:24:50

the node in a similar distance but also based on curve answering upgrades that the placement of the Caravan at launch

  • 1:24:57

is and so you only have to make it to that line and once you do the events surrounding the Caravan and the ability

  • 1:25:03

to attack that Caravan stops and it gets Auto moved into the care of answering

  • 1:25:08

guards will start to materialize around it they'll grab the reins of the horse and begin to move the Caravan slowly to

  • 1:25:14

the care of answering and now you've reached a pit stop and at that pit stop this can either be your final

  • 1:25:20

destination or you can relaunch it again you don't have to stop at nodes along the way to your destination if you want

  • 1:25:26

to keep going you can keep going you want to cross rivers you can cross rivers you want to go out into the ocean with a little raft Caravan you can do

  • 1:25:32

that too and you can go to a destination and you can stop there and unload there

  • 1:25:37

but if you're running into trouble if you're under assault if you're a near attack and there's a there's a node nearby with a caravansary that you can

  • 1:25:43

stop at you can start directing the Caravan towards that node and all you got to do is make it to that finish line outside of the node and when you do the

  • 1:25:51

Caravan Auto will move towards caravansary and that is the changes around the Caravan system

  • 1:25:59

look at that we made it I'm sure people will have many many

  • 1:26:05

questions but obviously when we hit Alpha 2 you will experience this you'll

  • 1:26:12

play through it you'll let us know what you guys think especially as we showcase

  • 1:26:17

more of the footage of it um I think it'll just be something that you have

  • 1:26:22

experienced to give us feedback on and make adjustments for yes and that's going to be a big component of of Alpha

  • 1:26:28

2 obviously the Caravan system that needs to be tested and needs feedback around it

  • 1:26:34

um and do you have time Stephen for Q a I have a 12 30 writer's uh Meetup that I

Outro and Q&A

  • 1:26:40

need to kind of be at but I can answer if you want to pick two q and A's I am gosh I really thought this is going to

  • 1:26:46

be only an hour but I just really talk too much I'm so sorry about that um

  • 1:26:51

let's let's maybe pick a couple questions oh yeah sorry yeah the wrong one there

  • 1:26:58

um so we will go with uh this is Naval

  • 1:27:04

Caravan oriented so I think we'll we'll do this one since it's uh so uh falcus wants to know about Naval

  • 1:27:12

Caravans will players be able to deliver straight from the naval Caravan as a ship in a dock area dedicated for

  • 1:27:19

deliveries or will they have to transition to a land Caravan before the city then drive inside the city walls

  • 1:27:27

so it depends on the type of transport you're using if you have launched a

  • 1:27:32

land-based caravan it can only be received at Caravan series

  • 1:27:37

however from a naval perspective Harbors that are located in specific areas

  • 1:27:42

around the world along the coast and those are points of interest that get adopted by a node when they reach

  • 1:27:48

certain levels in proximity to that Harbor or if the node gets vasseled by a parent or Sovereign node in relationship

  • 1:27:55

to their vassal owning that Harbor you can launch Merchant ships and a merchant ship interacts with a

  • 1:28:02

harbor in a very similar fashion to the way that Caravans interact with the caravansary but they have much larger

  • 1:28:09

capacity and they stop at other Harbors in a very similar functionality to the

  • 1:28:15

way the Caravans stop at caravanseries Harbors have a disembarkation loan Zone

  • 1:28:20

that um live near the harbor so if you make your merchant ship to that zone as well

  • 1:28:26

it will get guided into the harbor and will be safe but when you launch that Caravan from a harbor it is much like a

  • 1:28:33

land Caravan the only difference is is that Merchant ships cannot become land Caravans they must stay as merchant

  • 1:28:40

ships and that is an important note okay

  • 1:28:47

sorry I need a cough it's okay I cough uh schema 12 wants to know about node

  • 1:28:53

selection what is going to make nodes that aren't centralized popular well nodes closer to the edge of the map have

  • 1:28:59

better or more unique aspects to them or are we going to see less of a reason to

  • 1:29:05

have centralized nodes being way too popular so basically I think it depends on what you mean it yeah it

  • 1:29:11

depends on what they mean by centralized right it's important to note that the

  • 1:29:16

population of the of the world is both Dynamic and static there are

  • 1:29:23

portions of that spawn table for each Zone that will advance based on the

  • 1:29:29

advancement of nodes so there really is no centralized aspect

  • 1:29:36

um in that sense there are strategically placed nodes in certain areas that might

  • 1:29:41

be more important to oh

  • 1:29:46

that might be more important based on the type of gameplay you're targeting if you are a merchant ship captain and you

  • 1:29:54

need a harbor then it's likely you're going to want to Target a node that has a harbor that it has access to as

  • 1:30:00

opposed to an inland node but if you're a land Caravan person and you don't care about the harbor per se and you want

  • 1:30:06

something that's really situated close to a choke point so that you after that choke point can have you know the lay of

  • 1:30:12

the land to move your Caravan around that might be more important to you as well from a Content perspective the

  • 1:30:19

content advances with the world and that's something that removes that

  • 1:30:25

kind of centralized feel at least with content um because the world advances with your

  • 1:30:31

node and you're going to experience high level content if your node advances to high enough stages

  • 1:30:36

I think they're concerned more is like if people only navigate towards certain

  • 1:30:42

nodes in certain areas because those areas are where people want to gravitate

  • 1:30:48

towards for specific content or specific resources and stuff like that is it gonna

  • 1:30:53

are there going to be areas that make you want to have those nodes in other areas so it's not just this area becomes

  • 1:31:01

like the popular thing I think is more so the way the content materials all

  • 1:31:06

these things get distributed is they have unique relevancy all of them to end game play right and they're spread out

  • 1:31:13

and situated so it is more situational than it is static relevance right and what I'm hearing in that question is

  • 1:31:19

like there's always going to be a best node and that's not the case I think that's there will not there will not

  • 1:31:25

always be a best Note perfect the way that the way that content is separated the way that materials are separated the

  • 1:31:30

way that the zones are regionalized the way that Transit matters ensures that regions will have important nodes right

  • 1:31:37

not one node for the world and and by the way I do want to say something else and I know I'm letting

  • 1:31:44

the cat out of the bag on this as well um but there's been a lot of requests for an AMA

  • 1:31:50

um and uh we are planning on doing another AMA in October we don't have the

  • 1:31:56

exact date yet I believe it's October right we said October but we're going to do it in September but I kicked it yeah I had it originally in September but we

  • 1:32:02

could be more tact over well I want to do it I want to do it after the ranger reveal and the gameplay for next month

  • 1:32:08

so um so October we're going to be doing an AMA I'm I like the Reddit style AMA but

  • 1:32:15

we're also going to be taking uh questions from the forums as well that will enter intermix a little bit um

  • 1:32:20

there so be prepared there's a lot of new information I know that just came out in this stream

  • 1:32:26

um and an AMA is ask me anything so you can ask him anything and we'll for those of you who don't know what that is

  • 1:32:32

absolutely so we'll have a lot of opportunity to ask some questions

  • 1:32:37

um during that as well all right and can you answer one more question this one's a little a little spicier I suppose okay

  • 1:32:45

this one's from the lazy P the lazy peon yeah okay they want to know I loved your latest video by the way peon did a great

  • 1:32:52

follow-up overview I know he spent a lot of time on it uh lazy piano let me just give you a shout out that we absolutely

  • 1:32:58

love your enthusiasm for the game we love the hard work that you put in to spread the word about ashes and to give

  • 1:33:05

people comprehensive overviews um you did a really great job there buddy uh and chicken like a thank you for that

  • 1:33:11

long time to make that video too right how many hours did he say is crazy I don't know like 40 hours but from the

  • 1:33:16

studio from the studio to you we send you our love uh chat let's get some hearts for for peon just wait till he

  • 1:33:23

has to answer this question Pian then maybe he won't be sending you alone let's just end on that note

  • 1:33:30

his question is in regards to play to win and gold buying some MMOs will not

  • 1:33:36

directly play to win in a game or indirectly play to win because they don't take harsh enough action against

  • 1:33:43

gold buying will you be more harsh on these players than other MMOs to maintain the Integrity of the game in

  • 1:33:49

ashes AKA will you permanently ban players who buy gold from third party websites Etc yeah I think it's important

  • 1:33:56

to note that there is a sanctity that must be protected within the game from

  • 1:34:03

arm Ting and let me just go into a little uh you know I guess diatribe

  • 1:34:08

about this but um in in games that I've played where the company or the publisher does not

  • 1:34:16

enforce rules it becomes the standard that you buy gold if you want to be competitive if you want to compete at

  • 1:34:23

the top tier levels in certain games and everyone's buying gold you almost you

  • 1:34:29

were almost either have to buy the gold or you're just not going to be able to compete with those people and that's a really shitty feeling to have excuse my

  • 1:34:37

French I apologize um okay thank you that is that is sucky

  • 1:34:45

um and in order for that not to be the case it is the responsibility of the

  • 1:34:50

publisher or the or the um or the Developers both

  • 1:34:56

to make sure that we have stringent practices from a CS from a customer customer service perspective to enforce

  • 1:35:03

our rules and to make sure that players are aware if they partake in this there is a huge risk in doing so it's not

  • 1:35:11

going to be a slap on the hand it's not going to be a we told you once we told you twice we told you three four five

  • 1:35:16

six times okay we're just taking some gold away you know that kind of thing we have got to ensure that it is feared to

  • 1:35:24

do those things because you know that ashes has active GMS it has active

  • 1:35:30

customer service it has an active Community team and if there's one thing that you guys have seen over this development so far is even prior to the

  • 1:35:38

game launching prior to significant test sessions we focus on community engagement Margaret and her team are

  • 1:35:44

doing a phenomenal job and I know I say this often I love them all in in engaging with the community that

  • 1:35:51

does not stop at ship that gets more when we ship that become become

  • 1:35:56

something that is intrinsic as a definition between ashes and the games we've all played it is the distinctual

  • 1:36:04

point and that means that from an enforcement from a policy perspective we need to be Johnny on the spot when it

  • 1:36:10

comes to botting or rmting because the sanctity and player achievement within the game when valuing risk versus reward

  • 1:36:17

those things have to accompany it or else it's meaningless you know what's really funny is uh Adam who's our csrap

  • 1:36:25

uh our senior CS rev just put together a report about botting an rmt and stuff

  • 1:36:31

like that for the team and they're actually going to be putting that together this week to like take some big

  • 1:36:36

action on those so it's kind of perfect timing in regards to but like we were 100 keeping that in mind and one of the

  • 1:36:44

reasons why I wanted to work here is because Steven does understand how important community and customer support

  • 1:36:49

is yeah greatly I had to I had to buy gold in other games I played because and I

  • 1:36:56

readily admit that is is I don't play games to lose I play games to win and

  • 1:37:02

when the when the company or the publisher is not doing anything about the rampant rmting that's occurring

  • 1:37:08

within their servers what do they expect the players who are competitive to do there's no choice there

  • 1:37:15

um and that's the problem is I just know life did right exactly but anyways that is the

  • 1:37:22

problem is that the and you know what the funny thing is it's partly the reason why Intrepid even exists and

  • 1:37:29

trepid was born out of a hatred for that type of interaction between publisher and the developer and The Gamers is that

  • 1:37:36

there was no respect for that achievement in the game when somebody could just go out and buy it and not

  • 1:37:41

have to worry about retribution not have to worry about policy enforcement not have to worry about an active GM on the

  • 1:37:46

server that sucks there should be absolutely an activity-based Community

  • 1:37:52

team on the side of the company and publisher and the game itself the yeah anyways yeah and uh our

  • 1:37:59

development team is amazing the engineers are doing great things to create tools for our customer support in

  • 1:38:05

order to allow us to expand and make that scalable because scalable Solutions are the only way we're going to be

  • 1:38:10

actually able to continue to you know keep up the quality level of that

  • 1:38:17

um because you can't be everywhere at all you know what I love and I'm not I I

  • 1:38:23

so apologize because I'm not trying to bash on other Publishers or game developers but I love the term games as

  • 1:38:29

a service sorry writers yeah I know I love the term games as a service and the

  • 1:38:35

and the reason I love it is because every time I hear somebody say that I ask them that's awesome how much of your

  • 1:38:41

budget do you devote to servicing the players through a community team in active CS team oh not that much yes

  • 1:38:48

as a service I've worked on teams where I'm the community manager the social media manager that I'm doing everything

  • 1:38:54

right so I think like the fact that you understand for us to do the quality

  • 1:38:59

level that we need we need people to be doing those specific jobs absolutely absolutely

  • 1:39:05

um one other thing I want to say I didn't I didn't give a shout out to narc I know sometimes I need to give a shout out now because I I actually I love his

  • 1:39:11

uh intros but I do want to say it's probably not a healthy thing to have underwear with my face on them

  • 1:39:17

um yeah yeah I saw in a couple videos there's an it's my face I'm like what is

  • 1:39:24

this um yeah probably not the best idea but either way uh do love it it was

  • 1:39:31

hilarious all right well with that I know we didn't get through a lot of questions today but uh hopefully you got

  • 1:39:37
